Created Equal (2017)

Branden’s fascination with chaos (of the mathematical sort) and illusion combined to create this somewhat dangerous but entrancing piece.

Three 2x4 studs were attached with bearings to create what is known as a triple pendulum. These devices display fascinating chaotic behavior as even the slightest different in initial conditions creates wildly different movements.

Attached to the end of the final stud was a strip of high density LEDs that used persistence-of-vision to draw rainbows, hearts, and when installed for Halloween, jack o’ lantern faces in the air.

Funding for the piece was provided through a grant by FirePony Creative Society and was displayed at their regional Burning Man event Constellation. It was also displayed on the National Mall for the Catharsis Regional Burning Man event.
